The Apostle Paul told us to pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayer. There are many kinds of prayer, but there is a type of prayer that King Jesus has instructed that we are not to pray in Luke 6:28. We are reminded of this in Romans 12:14 and in James 3:10. As we do our personal Bible Studies, reading in the Psalms, we might on occasion see that David at times prayed the type of prayer that Jesus told us not to pray. We must remember that King Jesus had not yet been born on earth, lived, and died on our behalf. So, where there is no law, there is no judgment. What was allowed prior to Jesus' coming to earth, is not allowed for us if we are to be found obeying the law of King Jesus. (See Romans 4:15)
